How to Connect to Argus EMS

1

Physical Connection

Connect the device to the RS-485 or Ethernet network. Configure Slave ID and baud rate from the device front panel or web interface.

2

Add Device in Argus

From the Argus web panel click "New Device". Select Siemens PAC3200 from the template list — the register map loads automatically.

3

Live Monitoring

The Field Agent tests the connection; the first reading appears on the dashboard within 60 seconds. Alarm thresholds are configured.

What Can You Monitor?

  • Phase voltage and current (L1/L2/L3)
  • Line voltage (L1-L2, L2-L3, L3-L1)
  • Active power, reactive power, apparent power
  • Power factor (cos φ)
  • Energy (active import/export, reactive ind/cap)
  • Frequency (Hz)
  • Peak demand with timestamp
  • Tariff periods (day/peak/night time blocks)

Siemens PAC3200 Modbus Register List

The offsets below are taken from the Modbus table in the Siemens SENTRON PAC3200 manual. Reading uses FC03 (holding registers); float values occupy two registers and double values four.

Default Communication Settings

  • Modbus TCP: built-in Ethernet port, TCP port 502
  • Modbus RTU (PAC RS485 module): factory address 126, 19200 baud, 8N2
  • Energy counters are in Wh; divide by 1000 for kWh

Note: The address and communication settings can be changed from the device menu. Check the current values on the device display before commissioning.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the PAC3200 work directly with Argus via Modbus TCP?
Yes. The PAC3200's built-in Ethernet port is read over Modbus TCP (port 502). With the optional PAC RS485 expansion module the device can also be read over Modbus RTU; the Field Agent supports both paths.
What format are the PAC3200 register values in?
Instantaneous values (voltage, current, power, power factor, frequency) are 32-bit IEEE 754 floats occupying two registers. Energy counters are 64-bit doubles occupying four registers, in Wh. The offsets in the table are those in the Siemens manual; some Modbus clients may require subtracting 1.
Can the Siemens PAC3200 be used for sub-tenant billing?
Yes. Each PAC3200 is registered as a separate sub-meter. Argus EMS calculates energy consumption by tariff period (day/peak/night) and generates automatic PDF invoices.
Can many PAC3200 devices be monitored simultaneously?
Yes. Each device is defined with its own Modbus address or IP. On an RS-485 line the polling cycle gets longer as devices are added; reading over Ethernet is faster for panels with many devices.
